Distillerie La Chaleureuse

Distilled at La Brévine by Philippe Geinoz, this distillerie reflects an artisanal practice animated by an intimate knowledge of La Brévine’s terroir and its plants, which are unique even within the Val-de-Travers.

Our Story

In La Brévine, often described as one of the coldest villages in Switzerland, the Geinoz family has long practiced the art of warming spirits. In this rigorous climate, distillation has been less a profession than a gesture of conviviality.

Philippe Geinoz grew up observing his father, Louis, distill fruits with patience and care. Later in life, an encounter with a clandestine absinthe distiller proved decisive, awakening a new vocation. He began distilling absinthe himself. First discreetly, then with the intention of preserving and formalizing this emerging family tradition.

Thus was founded the La Chaleureuse distillery, its name evoking the quiet contrast between the valley’s austere winters and the enveloping warmth revealed in the glass.

Our Story

Savoir-faire

Deeply attached to craftsmanship, Philippe naturally draws parallels between his métier as a cheesemaker and the discipline of distillation. In both, precision of gesture, respect for raw materials, patience, and balance are essential. Time, temperature, and transformation govern the process.

His absinthes reflect the botanical richness of the region, offering aromatic structures that are both expressive and finely composed. Each plant is selected with discernment, particularly those sourced from Val-de-Travers, allowing terroir to articulate itself with clarity and depth.

While absinthe remains central, the distillery also produces other spirits, including gentian and whisky, each crafted with the same attentive rigor that defines the house.

The Distillery

For me, craftsmanship is simple: it’s having complete mastery of the entire production process.
